MILP #271

Kate had it.

The kids: Lionfish

Lionfish, age four months.(Started a while ago, never finished)

She won't take a bottle from me.  Bullshark hasn't been able to try since getting back from overseas. And I've given up dairy (hopefully temporarily) because she might have a lactose sensitivity.  She pretty much won't sleep unless she's held or riding in a car.
Lovely lovely gummy smiles
Her choice of teething ring is my chin
She rolls over, back to front, but will then wail because she's stuck.
Baby milk breath.
She attacks me when hungry, like a shark on a harbor seal.
She has a toy dolphin with a teething ring attached that she loves and she can reach up and pull on a toy that rewards her by playing a quiet tune.

Lionfish, age five and 1/2 months or so.

After trying the umpteenth bottle brand, and after a harrowing week of going to daycare part time until she learned to accept a bottle, she finally accepts a bottle.  Thank you, Emily & Susie at the daycare, and thank you Doctor Brown wide bottles, and thank you very occasional dose of Enfamil Soy formula when she's hungry at daycare and they've run out of my milk.
Yeah, still no dairy for me. Screaming gas fits last night, probably because I ate some rice that had a little butter cooked in it.
The next challenge is getting her to sleep through the night (or hell, for a four hour stretch) without being held/rocked/nursed back to sleep.
Despite all that, she still has the sweetest, loveliest disposition ... so long as we're not trying to nap her.
She still has black hair, and it naturally spikes up in front, giving her a mischievous look.
(I harbor not-so-secret hopes that her hair will turn red like my sister's did.)
No teeth yet.
Haven't tried introducing solids -- we're waiting another couple of weeks.
She tries to push forward on her belly, unsuccessfully.
She hates sitting in a Bumpo.
And... instead of napping, she's crying right now, so thus ends this post.

The kids: Clownfish

Clownfish had his 8th birthday on August 31.
EIGHT.
E I G H T
He's in third grade.  Thirrrrrrrd Graaaaaade.  Clearly, I still have issues with this.
Snapshot, in words.
He loves soccer, Boy Scouts, and basketball. And math. He likes reading the Beastquest books and Calvin and Hobbes and occasionally, the later Magic Treehouse books.  He learned to ride a two wheeler this summer. He is obsessed with Beyblades and Pokemon.  He makes his own lunch for school, which usually consists of lunch meat, a single slice of bread, a juice box and a small snack (often pretzels), sometimes cheese or a piece of fruit, plus school milk. He likes watching the British version of Top Gear and cooking competition reality shows. He asks why we won't buy an iPad or an iPhone or a Nintendo DS or any other cool awesome gaming device so he can talk about Mario Cart or Angry Birds with his friends and I think he's decided we're "poor" because we don't have those things.  He's really kind and generally thoughtful and seems well liked by his friends. He still gets anxious and loses sleep over things beyond his control.
We have a nice tradition of making up bedtime stories together ... we've created a whole family of dragons and a universe of adventures for them.  Someday, I hope he and I can tell our tales to the girls together.  He is having a harder time adjusting to being the big sister of two than he did to the arrival of Angelfish alone. We're all having difficulty adjusting to my being back at work, and have to get back to our old habits concerning his chores and allowance.  He loves mint chocolate chip ice cream, like me. He wants to train to run a 5K, but that takes a structured mommy, preferably one who is also training for a 5K, which he doesn't have right now.

Job front

The reason I have stayed at my job (and have been lucky to do so) is to maintain my eligibility for better paying permanent jobs that I figured would have to come up eventually. Eventually finally arrived.

I interviewed for one job already. I wanted it. It was a really good fit for me.  I killed that interview. And I knew (for reasons beyond my control) that there was a very very good chance a friend of mine would be chosen over me, and I was right. I like to think I gave him a run for his money though.

I interview for two jobs this week. TWO. Commute for them is effectively the same.

Job B is a good fit for me -- my skills, interest, personality, etc. I think I have a good shot at this. But, similar to the job I have now, it has an expiration date (though I have been reassured in the past that the person hired could stay as long as he/she wanted, there isn't really room for advancement or raises... and I'd always have my eyes open for the "better paying permanent jobs.")  Jobs like Job A.

Job A. Pays about $4,500 a year more than Job B.  Its a bit more editorial than legal and I don't know if its as good as good a fit for my skills or my personality.  But it comes with more money and more security.

So, fingers crossed.  I'll keep you posted.

Exploits of a mommy

I am a bad mommy.
Baby #1: OMG I must wash everything new before he wears it!Baby #3: a) What new clothes? or b) New clothes as a gift! Wash? Shit, this is the cleanest it will ever be!

I am an awesome mommy.
I gave up milk/dairy products for the sake of the baby. Its been horrible. I am a cheese addict! No cheese! No pizza! Also, no pesto (no garlic or onions either boo gassy baby), no ice cream, no milk in my coffee (though I've gotten used to almond milk for this purpose), no chocolate. Husband brought home some cupcakes as a surprise for everyone. Buttercream. FUCK. But, at least I've lost like 5 pounds.

I am a bad mommy.
I am back at work. I've done six whole days at work. Work is awesome. And I'll go an hour or so really focused on something and I'll realize *shit I haven't worried about the kids for over an hour.*

I am an awesome mommy.
Two Saturdays in a row, I got Clownfish to his soccer game, on my own, with both girls in tow.  Cheering from the sidelines with an infant and toddler.

I am a bad mommy.
I sent Clownfish into Angelfish's room to entertain her so I could finish this blog post, because I haven't blogged like... all month.

I am an awesome mommy.
I'm stopping now so I can the kids to the nice park a few towns away, one that's kind of inconvenient and difficult with the baby, because Clownfish and Angelfish each have age appropriate play equipment.
